Age-related macular degeneration and other retinal diseases cause debilitating loss of vision, and the standard of care treatment is an injection of therapeutics directly into the eye as often as every month. This injection frequency creates a huge burden on the healthcare system, and most importantly on patients and their caregivers. Vitranu is developing the Tunable Extended-Release Capsule or TERC, a sustained-release drug delivery technology designed to significantly reduce the frequency of eye injections, with the goal of six months or more of treatment in a single injection. By providing an extended duration of treatment, Vitranu aims to increase compliance and ultimately preserve the most precious gift of sight for more patients.
